CLEOCIN topical solution contains clindamycin phosphate 1%, a lincosamide antibiotic that reduces acne-causing bacteria and inflammation in acne vulgaris.
Active ingredient: Clindamycin phosphate 1%. Clindamycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of Propionibacterium acnes. It also has anti-inflammatory effects by reducing neutrophil chemotaxis and free fatty acid concentration in sebum.
Shake well before use. Apply thin layer to affected areas twice daily (morning and evening) after cleansing. Can be used alone or in combination with benzoyl peroxide or retinoids. Use cotton applicator or clean fingertips. Continue treatment for full prescribed duration even if improvement is seen.
Inflammatory acne vulgaris, particularly papules and pustules. Often combined with other treatments for enhanced efficacy. Suitable for mild to moderate acne.
May cause dryness, peeling, burning sensation. Rare risk of pseudomembranous colitis (though extremely rare with topical use). Bacterial resistance can develop with prolonged use; often combined with benzoyl peroxide to prevent resistance. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and abraded skin. Safe during pregnancy (Category B) under medical supervision.
